Sacramento, Calif. – Former Candidate for California Republican Party Vice Chair, current delegate, and Republican activist Corrin Rankin today announced the formation of Legacy Republican Alliance (LRA), a new political action committee and grassroots organization dedicated to fostering Black, Republican leadership at the state, local and federal levels. Legacy Republican Alliance maintains a robust Board of Directors, consisting of veteran political professionals, candidates, and elected leaders.
“We are launching this effort to promote Black, conservative leadership throughout California,” said Corrin Rankin, California GOP delegate. “Our state is in desperate need of diverse and thoughtful leaders who will bring a much-needed, new approach to solving California’s toughest challenges. We’re building the necessary framework to eventually take our efforts nationwide.”
Legacy Republican Alliance seeks to recruit, endorse, train and fund Black Republican candidates for elected office and will begin with the 2020 election cycle. LRA seeks to partner with other Republican organizations and will immediately begin a robust fundraising campaign to ensure Black Republican candidates are supported. According to the Public Policy Institute of California only six percent of Black Californians are registered Republicans.
“Outreach to the Black community remains a significant challenge for the Republican Party,” said LRA Vice President and candidate for Congress Aja Smith. “This organization will work hard to ensure local communities have a chance to elect Republicans who look like them, live in their neighborhoods, share their values and understand their needs.”
The LRA platform is focused on education, criminal justice reform, taxation, the constitution, police-community relations, and affordable housing. LRA members will be present at the California Republican Party Fall Convention in Indian Wells on September 6. LRA President Corrin Rankin will be on site to host a workshop on Republican engagement in the Black community.
